It not only showed me some new information, but also confirmed some of the opinions I was secretly forming about some of the information I have already read (ie that perhaps it is not all totally logical and correct). I also like the fact that he is a fellow Aussie!

In content strategy/ marketing the clock is ticking, and new things are being created all the time. Easy, info packed, highly actionable content is everything. That’s why Dan Norris is who he is. His is a talent and knowledge base that calls out for a rookie to attempt to emulate.. and dare I say work toward besting someday? No, I dare not. I’ll stick with attempting to rival in some capacity. Don’t buy this book unless you want to put in work. If you do, I could not imagine a better guidebook. I’m guessing anyone reading reviews on this topic is a motivated person. There is no way to read this without hungering to learn more. This book is a one stop map. It makes me want to quit my job and do this full time!

I asked her in a follow-up email what she meant by this. Now having read her book, The Book Of Not So Common Prayer, I understand much more clearly what she meant.Linda McCullough Moore is not a "cultural Christian". She is a real one and lives the life bringing herself to prayer 4 times per day for 20 minutes, a practice she spends a 160 page book explaining. She explains her prayer life and what she wants it to be in every day language with wit, humbleness, and clarity that made me admire her and maybe want to emulate her practice. I see prayer a little differently than she does, her approach being more traditionally Christian, and I, a former Roman Catholic and now a Unitarian Universalist, more eclectic perhaps, and based on Aldous Huxley's Perennial Philosophy, the writings of the Stoics, the meditative practices of Osho, and the prayer practices recommended in the workbook of A Course In Miracles.I don't imagine God as an "other person" who I talk to like an imaginary friend, but rather as an experience of Love's presence getting into a flow state of becoming one with everything as the state of bliss pursued by meditation. I told Linda in an email, I think of God as a verb, the ultimate force of the universe, the unified Godhead, and taking 20 minutes 4 times a day to connect to this wellspring does change one's sense of oneself and the world, no question about it.I have great respect and gratitude of Linda's sincerity, genuineness, and candor in discussing what for most people is a very intimate and rarely described experience: praying. With the encouragement of Linda's book, I am going to work at my prayer life more seriously, regularly, and enthusiastically. For that, The Book Of Not So Common Prayer, is a great blessing.

Linda McCullough Moore has a conversational writing style that makes me wish I could have her come sit in my kitchen with a tall glass of iced tea and talk about prayer, pray, talk about prayer, and pray some more. I feel like we'd be friends, just based on this one book.What I like best about the book is her practicality. She doesn't leave anything out of her descriptions, and she sets out to give instructions for prayer. As she talked about Brother Lawrence and his eight specific times a day for prayer, I could see her studying him and how he managed that, men don't multi-task that well, or so my husband says. I could also see her setting down a schedule that allowed her to pray four times a day. She took on different prayer "practices" to make her prayer life new and alive, she engaged herself into prayer with other believers to keep herself accountable, and she studied her own relationship to God in order to bring herself closer to Him. Her opinions and teachings so closely mirrored my own, that at times, I seemed superfluous even to myself. She encourages, cajoles, prods, urges, and all but begs us to bring our relationship with God to the fulness God deserves from us. She wants us to know Him, to walk with Him, to see His presence with us, and to hear Him. She wants us to be so immersed in Him, that our lives become prayers in and of themselves. The question of why she wants that is because this is what God wants, and in finding her heart's home with Him, she wants to share that.Some of the prayer methods she uses are Lectio Divina, Contemplative Prayer, writing to God, listening to what God has to say to us, and living out our prayers. I haven't moved to pray four times a day like she has, but I do have my phone set up to remind me to pray for three friends who all have the same first name. An alarm goes off daily so that I will pray for them--it just happens to be Bugs Bunny saying, "Ooh, this looks like fun!" Whatever the tool, if it reminds me to get in touch with God, it's worth it.The book is easy to read, but deep enough that it should be taken in short segments and digested. Easily Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a postage-paid letter to God.

This book was a HUGE help for me! My professor used a very philosophical way of teaching Contracts Law - and I heard from others that the exam was going to be black letter. This book helped me understand the concepts and what I really needed to know for the final. Was a life saver.

Mark Singleton is a long-term research fellow at the American Institute of Indian Studies and teaches at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His publications include Yoga Body: The Origins of Modern Posture Practice.   James Mallinson is a lecturer in Sanskrit and Classical and Indian Studies at SOAS, University of London. He has published eight books, all of which are editions and translations of Sanskrit yoga texts, epic tales, and poetry. His recent work has used philological study of Sanskrit texts, ethnography, and art history to explore the history of yoga and yogis.

Yoga is a trendy activity today and the authors affirm: “The global diffusion of yoga began at least a century and a half ago, since which time yoga has continued to be refracted through many new cultural prisms, such as New Age religion, psychology, sports science, biomedicine, and so on” (page ix). One, among many examples, is the proclamation of 21 June as the International Day of Yoga made two years ago by the United Nations.The authors have a long experience as dedicated yoga practitioners and have the most impeccable academic credentials for such an endeavor; both are senior scholars in oriental studies at the University of London. The book is addressed to the general public and is written in a clear language, but it is also a rich source of documentation that will be appreciated by scholars. The focus of the book is on the practical aspects of yoga and not on its philosophical or religious dimensions. The authors explain that yoga can be understood both as a practice and as the goal of that practice and they fully cover the two of them in the entire volume. They provide also the timeline of the most important selected texts and a glossary of the most common terms used in yoga."Roots of Yoga" is a comprehensive overview that covers such a vast subject in 11 chapters and a long introduction. It took several years of gestation. Each chapter is devoted to a particular subject (e.g. what is yoga, postures, breath control, the yogic body, mantras, and yogic powers) and is subdivided in relevant sections following the chronological order of the texts. Such a presentation introduces the reader to the selected translated texts, explaining their historical context, their influence in the cultural evolution of the Indian subcontinent, and their current relevance. This excellent survey is a major contribution to understand better the rich yoga tradition. The anthology includes a selection of 169 primary sources, which are listed with the complete references from the most authoritative editions; many of these texts have been neglected, considered lost, or have been poorly translated. The selected texts cover a wide timeline, from the Vedas (1500 BCE) to the 19th century CE. Many of them have been translated by the authors from Sanskrit, Pali, Avadhi, and Braj Bhasha; others are translations from Arabic, Chinese, Old Bengali, Kashmiri, Persian, Tibetan and Tamil sources. The successful collection of texts has been made possible because of the significant advances in historical and philological research on yoga made during the last three decades.The book is part of the Hatha Yoga Project, a research undertaking that has been funded by the European Research Council for several years with the purpose of producing critical and annotated translations of key texts; it is based at the School of Oriental and African Studies –SOAS, at the University of London and with the participation of other international centres. With their book, Mallinson and Singleton have made a significant contribution emphasizing the idea that yoga is not a static subject but that it has been evolving, adapting and mutating. Through multiple examples, they illustrate how yoga masters were true innovators and were successful in improving yoga practices while they also emphasize that their innovative views were bound to a proper orthodoxy.

My first reaction when I saw this new publication was, “Oh no, not another yoga book.” Once I received it and saw what was inside I realized I was very wrong. This may not be the best collection of yogic writings, but it is certainly one of the best. It is a worth-while piece in any collection, and a very good introduction into Yoga in all its many facets.Most of the translations in this book are from sources already found in English translation. Mallinson and Singleton however offer their own fresh, clear translations. Some of source material, even though other English translations exist, are either from obscure, hard-to-find, or out of print publications. Some of the translations appear to be from sources translated into English for the first time. All of the translations are expertly translated in clear modern English, yet faithful to key yogic concepts.Yoga is an expansive topic not limited to the approach in Ashtanga Yoga. Nor is yoga limited to the yoga of Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. With this in mind, this collection of writings is grouped with reference to the yoga found in the Mahabharata, and in Buddhist, tantric, and Nath writings, traditions and samhitas. The approach of yoga is differ in each of these traditions; Mallinson and Singleton do a good job in showing the nuances between schools of yoga. The chapters follow the general approach taken in the Yoga Sutras, but also include chapters on bandha (yogic locks) and the yogic body.The inclusion of writings by the Nath Siddhas are especially welcomed. The Naths were the spiritual ancestors to modern Hatha Yoga, a direct line leading to modern yoga as we now know it. The source material from this school of yoga is hard to find in English translation, let alone in any sort of publication.The translators have supplied an introduction and glossary. The introduction contains an enlightening history of yoga. There are copious notes and a bibliography. This collection in other words contains something for any type of reader, whether this is your first time in studying yoga, a general reader, or a specialist. All in all, a highly recommended collection.

Learning the cultural significance of certain things enriches one's Bible study. If you are not one to just read the Bible, but are dedicated to serious and in-depth Bible study, then this book is a must-have. Knowing the backstory of the people in the Bible lands of Mesopotamia, Syria, Egypt, etc., their cultural habits, and the way they lived their daily lives helps to illuminate the scriptures. For example, in the 4th chapter of the Book of John when Jesus has a conversation with the Samaritan woman, we know by the woman's statement that there was tension between Jews and Samaritans for the woman was surprised that Jesus asked her for a drink of water since the "Jews have no dealings with Samaritans." However, the text doesn't go into detail about why this tension exists, but referencing Nelson's Bible Customs and Manners will tell you that because the Samaritans were taken captive by the Assyrians, they intermarried and adopted many pagan beliefs leading to enmity between the Samaritans and the Jews. This book is an invaluable resource for learning not only the customs and manners of certain groups, but it also presents exciting articles about the political landscape, wars and captivity, socio-economic conditions, how different cultures evolved, and the impact all of this had on God's people and His purposes. It is not laid out in dictionary format; it's more encyclopedic and has a wonderful and comprehensive index. Also, the photographs are very useful and very well-placed throughout the book. This book will certainly help to increase your understanding and appreciation of the Bible.

Great handy resource for any Bible student who wants a deeper understanding of cultural and environmental influences. I found facts in this text that had not been revealed in several commentaries and study Bibles. Easy to read and nicely illustrated.

This is very readable book created in a format that is clear and easy on the eyes. Although this is no novel, it is laid-out in clear sections and allows for continual reading in each era of biblical times.For instance, you can take a tour of the time of Abraham and learn of the geography, houses, religions, foods, agriculture, tools and many other such things that were pertinent to that era and less so as time progressed. This is very helpful if you wish to have accurate information for a particular time and place.For myself, this book is not quite as helpful as I had anticipated, and this simply because I was looking more for a searchable encyclopedic book that would describe all the above items in a more itemized format. The way this book presents its cultural and historical information is valid, but makes searching for specific items "an Inn" or "yoke" difficult. Most pictures are very clear but not in color.This would be a great book for someone wishing to study a specific era such as the Kings of Israel, Babylonian captivity, Roman rule...

My daughter has Crohn's Disease and has been coping with a flare for over a year now. My husband and I have watched her spiral down, gradually cutting out pieces of her life and becoming more and more homebound. We always would push her to function as much as possible and she would try but, in the end, this only served to increase her anxiety about her pain and her ability (or lack thereof) to cope with it. Now, I understand that anxiety and worry physiologically "turns up the volume" on pain. It's real pain, but it's something that she can learn to have some control over and reduce. This book has helped me to pull various professionals into my daughter's life (talk therapist, biofeedback therapist, Iyenger yoga instructor) that are helping her to build the coping skills that she so desperately needed. My husband and I have searched for numerous doctors to help our son with chronic pain including stomach pain, neck pain, headache, muscle cramps, backache, joint pain, constant ill health, brain fog. We've been searching for 12 years. This book describes many cases of children and how they were helped to overcome their distress thus relieving parents' anguish. In our case, my son was recently disgnosed with Lyme and Bartonella Disease and we are starting on that path to remission and recovery. I saw my son's experiences in the lives of children described in this book. It helps parents realize they are not alone. We came across this book after my adolescent daughter had been hospitalized twice and completely disabled from migraines that started when she hit puberty. We'd crossed the country to get her the best available treatment for migraines, without much improvement. By the time we read this book, we'd exhausted all the medical options available to us and were completely desperate. Its very reasonable methods for dealing with chronic pain changed her, and therefore our, lives. We gave up looking for the most high powered doctors and found local doctors with experience in dealing with chronic pain who were in synch with the methods discussed in the book. (E.g., children with chronic pain need to function to get better, since pain is a product of the conscious mind; medications can help, but aren't a silver bullet; yoga and biofeedback can help children cope.) One year later my daughter, although not pain free, is much, much better, and enjoying life again. She's back in school on a regular basis, has a normal social life again, and is generally back to living her life.

This book is a great resource for anyone with chronic pain, not just children. It provides good insight and understanding of issues. It also gives some excellent techniques to try for calming symptoms without medication. If you are reading this then someone you know is probably in pain and can benefit from this book. Do them a favor and buy it and use it.

My 10 yr old son is a patient of Dr. Zeltzer, the author of this book. We had been through a nightmare ordeal because of my son's chronic stomach pain. Seen numerous doctors, tried mind altering meds. Everthing changed after our appt. with her clinic. Another patient told me about the book and it soon became clear that this author is one of the doctors who is both brilliant and compassionate, a rare thing for most doctors. This is a thorough comprehensive book that changed the direction of my son's health issues. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child who is suffering some kind of chronic illness.

Having a son who suffers a chronic pain condition brought on by a virus, this book was a Godsend. Finally someone could explain to me why painkillers don't work on children and why the brain won't shut off the pain. Great explanation of how kids are different than adults when it comes to pain and also, great actual examples of kids and pain and what worked and what didn't. Medications are also explained in depth, as well as more homeopathic and non-medical cures.

I had heard of this Doctor many times before, so was eager to read his information. What a difference to know easy alternatives to replacing prescriptions! Do not play "doctor" until you know if you can get off your meds safely. This book is well worth the money! Wish I had purchased sooner.

This is one of the easiest books for anyone to use, be they a beginner in alternative/complementary treatments, or one who has used them for years. There are three ways to address the therapies, depending on how one chooses to do so:The Quick-Cure Finder, where one looks for the name of the malady/illness of concern (leading to mentions of the many therapies involved), the Index of Everything (leading to names and page numbers of therapies involved), and by the alphabetical listings of the therapies themselves.Each therapy gives an easy-to-read understanding of the conditions which it addresses, the dosages, the comparative studies done with other therapies and sometimes allopathic drugs, and the anticipated outcomes of the suggested therapy.This edition was copyright 2010, so is relatively new and current enough to be of great use. In my opinion, it has missed a few things ( example: Bladder infections, to me = D-Manose. Not mentioned in the book. Cell salts recommended, and not covered in the book), and in general has addressed at least 90%% of what any lay person might need.Indeed, a good addition to any "healing" library !

I am always striving for optimal health and and feel this book is an excellent resource for suggesting possible solutions to many health issues. The book's organization, however, does not make for an interesting read from cover to cover. My primary personal issue is blood sugar control so I would have liked an organized section on that topic but the book doesn't have that. Instead, I had to use the index, which is pretty comprehensive, to look under diabetes and then to the pages listed for each individual supplement. I used that then to build a spreadsheet containing all the applicable products and dosages.During my scan of the contents for the spreadsheet, I ran across a couple incidental references in the book to other supplements that, unfortunately, weren't elaborated on or specifically covered as individual supplements.. That, and the fact that I didn't see Ayurvedic herbs such as Guduchi, made me give it only 4 stars. But, within its limits, the book is very good and I am definitely glad I bought it. .

I liked this book very much. However, I went to see the doctor himself and felt disappointed. It seems to me like it was good intention gone bad. Now it's all about what they can sell. It makes me lose faith and feel more like I'm getting the sales pitch. That aside, I still think the book was informative.

Very thorough, informational, and useable for the layperson.

Very good information for natural treatments. I am checking to see if there is a later version.

Hard to follow, not a clear link with proven results. Some information of value.

Easy to understand, and how to use if prescriptive meds are not available or advisable.

I've done a lot of network-design work and consider myself to be an expert. Had I had this book from the start, I may have got to expert status a lot faster.Note that while the authors (all from IBM) have extensive experience building software products to help you do supply-chain network optimization this is not a sales brochure for LogicNet. They lead you, step by step through the process, adding in complexity one layer at a time, until you have a very sophisticated model.Managers who hope to become better buyers/consumers of network-design projects may want to skip the math sections and can do so without missing key points. For analysts actively involved in building optimization-models the mathematical formulations are extremely helpful. Even if you choose to build models with a software package that tries to hide the math from you, the guidance around data and the art of modeling is worth the price and the time to read it.

This book addresses practical problems in supply chain network design. The authors are experienced and provide very useful tips regarding data aggregation, "what-if" analysis, and methods to make the best use of your data as input for your model. This is a strategic-level type of modeling, so if you are dealing with operational-level problems this might not be your best choice. I personally enjoy strategic (and sometimes tactic) modeling, and I had a lot of fun reading this book. I highly recommend it.

The whole book is based in the concept of trade-offs in a supply chain as a main design guide, instead of detailed technical considerations regarding network theory. This book is perfect for people designing a supply chain from a bussiness perspective and draws a clear methodology to accomplish this task. Very recomended.

I thought it was going to be a little more anecdotal and perhaps an easier read. I got a lot of this stuff when I was in business school at Carnegie Mellon. Wanted a real life follow on to the concepts but this wasn't it.

This is a very well researched and written book. It would be a good tool for any organization to use when changes are needed.

If I could, I would give this book half a dozen stars--or even more. I loved Lois Pryce's previous two motorcycle adventure memoirs. But this tale is less a motorcycle adventure story than a contemporary politic-anthropological study of modern Iran.After reading it, I sent a copy of "Revolutionary Ride" to a friend who is a retired naval intelligence officer with extensive travel experience in the middle east--and who is fluent in French, Farsi, and Persian. He reported to me that he could not put the book down. Pryce's account will open your eyes to what Iran is REALLY like--not the Iran of the press, nor the Iran of either western or Islamist propaganda.My hat is again off to the intrepid Lois Pryce who boldly goes where few women have gone before. She has always been both plucky and lucky; but in this book we see that what looks like good fortune is largely the open-hearted, open-minded and generous spirit of people in "enemy" territory. The average men and women of Iran are not anti-Western, anti-British or anti American, and they are no more fond of their oppressive and repressive government than we are.If I had 1/10 of Lois's courage, I'd go to Iran too!

No, this book is not like Pryce's two previous motorcycle journey tomes. Though less focused on the journey this book delves into the people of Iran through the author's encounters with average citizens. Pryce is remarkably open-minded and a bit daring. This allows her to meet real people and to capture and relay the distinctive flavor of the places she visits. Revolutionary Ride is a rare glimpse into a country and the people who populate it and the results are surprising. If you've ever wanted to know what Iran is REALLY like you'll discover it reading this book.

Everyone should read this who cares about the fate of the world. It is basically about the reality of real people, versus the image we get of other nations, as projected by the media and our governments. The world is much sweeter than it looks in the papers.Also, this is a story of inspiration. Lois is her own, sacred kind of daredevil on a social level, a diplomat for humanity itself. Her work (which does strongly resemble a series of vacations, but if you read it you'll see it's work, too) is globally important, and much needed. Her story will show you what a lone woman can do, if she steps on out there and does it.

Not your common two wheels adventure story. Luis Pryce digs deep under the ugly face of current Iran regime, to show the world the beautiful people of Iran. In contrast to the brutal, merciless, ferocious, xenofobic monster which comprises the fanatical Islamic mullahs who govern Iran, Pryce on two wheels find a completely different society, lively and friendly . A completely different story from Pryce other two wheels world adventures.Those who are looking for the usual tons of miles in dirt roads might be disappointed. But for those who are looking for a true adventure story with exceptional revelations in a misterious and obscure land, I recommend this book without reservation.

Beautifully written by a fearless adventurer.This is the kind of book that you will want to savor slowly. Read a chapter and reflect before picking up where you left off.Proves that people of the world are not represented by their hard line governments.Lois is no Thatcher, I am no Trump and the vast majority of Iranians are not Ahmadinejad.

I'm a big fan of Lois Pryce and her books. Don't be like me and read the first half of the book and feel let down, stay with it, it really does come together nicely in the second half. Lois Pryce is a very brave person, and she writes not only about places and adventure, but she has a way of deeply connecting with people that few writers manage to achieve. She is very passionate about Iran, and after reading her book, I can fully understand why.Thank you, Lois Pryce!

I really (really!) enjoyed this book. What I thought to be a book about an adventure motorcycle ride turned out to be so much more. A big thank you to Lois Pryce for her courage to undertake such an adventure, and for her story that recounts her experience so vividly. I understand the world a little better after riding along with Lois in this true adventure into the unknown.

Lois Pryce always makes me laugh, and this book gave me a lot to think about. As a father of two daughters in their mid-20's I spent a lot of time worrying as I read about what Lois went through to travel in Iran. Her courage, curiosity, and refusal to give up in the face of some very challenging situations is an inspiration.Thanks for once again taking us along!! I look forward to the next one...
