Author does a fine job explaining the methodology of bullet journaling. Book has photos and walks you through the process of bullet journaling. She also is concise regarding why bullet journaling works for simplicity in productivity for work and home life. Highly recommend.

This e-book was the fastest road for me to get my Bujo started. I have the Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll and reference both of these for inspiration and ideas. I was suffering a little from paralysis by analysis that's because of me and not these great works, but this hack of a guide put my journal into overdrive. Thanks so much to the both of you for the examples and the path to a more intentional and focused future.

Basic information about bullet (dot) journaling. Quick lists, photos of sample layouts, and best bets for setting up your bullet journal make for a no-nonsense guide to get you up and running in no time.

Very concise and to the point, a good overview. I found it useful to kick-start me in this entire process.

This book was fine. I did not find a lot of ‘hacks.’ Ryder Carroll is a much better Bujo resource if you want a cleaner, streamlined approach. I tried some of the doo-dads and drawing in early Bujos and honestly, I find that’s just overkill. Goodreads is a better tool for tracking books read, Way of Life is a better habit tracker, and this leaves the Bujo for one’s index, future log, tasks and collections. It’s also very helpful to have the month overview on one page to record events and key activities on a day-by-day basis especially when doing a monthly review and you’re like ‘where the heck did the month go,’ and ‘what the heck did I get done.’ This is a life saver - I’ve often surprised myself at just how much did get done.

As someone looking to start a first time bullet journal, this book gave me the clearest, most easy to follow instructions of any information I'd read on the topic. I now feel confident enough to crack open my journal and actually get started instead of just sitting there with the supplies, too confused and afraid to begin. Thank you Kerry Sanford for demystify the bujo!

Out of all the Kindle unlimited books I have found in bullet journalling, this one is by far the one that has helped me most. I have started bullet journalling and looked online and Pinterest for ideas but I was having a hard time organizing my collections and pages using my happy planner instead of a bujo notebook. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking to start your own bullet journal.

Great advice about how to begin your bullet journal without much effort or fear. Excited to start! Glad I spent a little bit of time reading this book.

Now I plan to read through it again slowly and take notes, studying the additional information and really putting it into action. I have been studying the topic of entrepreneurship and online business for some months now, to the point where I am starting to realise I probably know as much (in theory) as most people writing books on the subject. I can pick a batch of crap (and believe me, I've seen a few) however Dan's book was a wonderful surprise. It not only showed me some new information, but also confirmed some of the opinions I was secretly forming about some of the information I have already read (ie that perhaps it is not all totally logical and correct). I also like the fact that he is a fellow Aussie!

I’m a rank beginner to content writing and this book is overwhelming b/c it is packed with so much actionable information. It’s basically perfect. I believe that if you studied this book and became proficient at what it espouses you could build a very lucrative career or business, from that alone. In content strategy/ marketing the clock is ticking, and new things are being created all the time. Easy, info packed, highly actionable content is everything. That’s why Dan Norris is who he is. His is a talent and knowledge base that calls out for a rookie to attempt to emulate.. and dare I say work toward besting someday? No, I dare not. I’ll stick with attempting to rival in some capacity. Don’t buy this book unless you want to put in work. If you do, I could not imagine a better guidebook. I’m guessing anyone reading reviews on this topic is a motivated person. There is no way to read this without hungering to learn more. This book is a one stop map. It makes me want to quit my job and do this full time!

When I wrote Linda McCullough Moore a fan email after reading her story "On My Way Now" in the April, 2014 issue of The Sun Magazine she described herself as "deeply Christian". I asked her in a follow-up email what she meant by this. Now having read her book, The Book Of Not So Common Prayer, I understand much more clearly what she meant.Linda McCullough Moore is not a "cultural Christian". She is a real one and lives the life bringing herself to prayer 4 times per day for 20 minutes, a practice she spends a 160 page book explaining. She explains her prayer life and what she wants it to be in every day language with wit, humbleness, and clarity that made me admire her and maybe want to emulate her practice. I see prayer a little differently than she does, her approach being more traditionally Christian, and I, a former Roman Catholic and now a Unitarian Universalist, more eclectic perhaps, and based on Aldous Huxley's Perennial Philosophy, the writings of the Stoics, the meditative practices of Osho, and the prayer practices recommended in the workbook of A Course In Miracles.I don't imagine God as an "other person" who I talk to like an imaginary friend, but rather as an experience of Love's presence getting into a flow state of becoming one with everything as the state of bliss pursued by meditation. I told Linda in an email, I think of God as a verb, the ultimate force of the universe, the unified Godhead, and taking 20 minutes 4 times a day to connect to this wellspring does change one's sense of oneself and the world, no question about it.I have great respect and gratitude of Linda's sincerity, genuineness, and candor in discussing what for most people is a very intimate and rarely described experience: praying. With the encouragement of Linda's book, I am going to work at my prayer life more seriously, regularly, and enthusiastically. For that, The Book Of Not So Common Prayer, is a great blessing.

I am a sucker for nearly any book on prayer. If prayer is in the title, I'll at least read the jacket to see if it is truly something I want to read. The Book of Not So Common Prayer was just the thing I was looking for and I read it eagerly. Linda McCullough Moore has a conversational writing style that makes me wish I could have her come sit in my kitchen with a tall glass of iced tea and talk about prayer, pray, talk about prayer, and pray some more. I feel like we'd be friends, just based on this one book.What I like best about the book is her practicality. She doesn't leave anything out of her descriptions, and she sets out to give instructions for prayer. As she talked about Brother Lawrence and his eight specific times a day for prayer, I could see her studying him and how he managed that, men don't multi-task that well, or so my husband says. I could also see her setting down a schedule that allowed her to pray four times a day. She took on different prayer "practices" to make her prayer life new and alive, she engaged herself into prayer with other believers to keep herself accountable, and she studied her own relationship to God in order to bring herself closer to Him. Her opinions and teachings so closely mirrored my own, that at times, I seemed superfluous even to myself. She encourages, cajoles, prods, urges, and all but begs us to bring our relationship with God to the fulness God deserves from us. She wants us to know Him, to walk with Him, to see His presence with us, and to hear Him. She wants us to be so immersed in Him, that our lives become prayers in and of themselves. The question of why she wants that is because this is what God wants, and in finding her heart's home with Him, she wants to share that.Some of the prayer methods she uses are Lectio Divina, Contemplative Prayer, writing to God, listening to what God has to say to us, and living out our prayers. I haven't moved to pray four times a day like she has, but I do have my phone set up to remind me to pray for three friends who all have the same first name. An alarm goes off daily so that I will pray for them--it just happens to be Bugs Bunny saying, "Ooh, this looks like fun!" Whatever the tool, if it reminds me to get in touch with God, it's worth it.The book is easy to read, but deep enough that it should be taken in short segments and digested. Easily Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a postage-paid letter to God.

Mark Singleton is a long-term research fellow at the American Institute of Indian Studies and teaches at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His publications include Yoga Body: The Origins of Modern Posture Practice.   James Mallinson is a lecturer in Sanskrit and Classical and Indian Studies at SOAS, University of London. Yoga is a trendy activity today and the authors affirm: “The global diffusion of yoga began at least a century and a half ago, since which time yoga has continued to be refracted through many new cultural prisms, such as New Age religion, psychology, sports science, biomedicine, and so on” (page ix). One, among many examples, is the proclamation of 21 June as the International Day of Yoga made two years ago by the United Nations.The authors have a long experience as dedicated yoga practitioners and have the most impeccable academic credentials for such an endeavor; both are senior scholars in oriental studies at the University of London. The book is addressed to the general public and is written in a clear language, but it is also a rich source of documentation that will be appreciated by scholars. The focus of the book is on the practical aspects of yoga and not on its philosophical or religious dimensions. The authors explain that yoga can be understood both as a practice and as the goal of that practice and they fully cover the two of them in the entire volume. They provide also the timeline of the most important selected texts and a glossary of the most common terms used in yoga."Roots of Yoga" is a comprehensive overview that covers such a vast subject in 11 chapters and a long introduction. It took several years of gestation. Each chapter is devoted to a particular subject (e.g. what is yoga, postures, breath control, the yogic body, mantras, and yogic powers) and is subdivided in relevant sections following the chronological order of the texts. Such a presentation introduces the reader to the selected translated texts, explaining their historical context, their influence in the cultural evolution of the Indian subcontinent, and their current relevance. This excellent survey is a major contribution to understand better the rich yoga tradition. The anthology includes a selection of 169 primary sources, which are listed with the complete references from the most authoritative editions; many of these texts have been neglected, considered lost, or have been poorly translated. The selected texts cover a wide timeline, from the Vedas (1500 BCE) to the 19th century CE. Many of them have been translated by the authors from Sanskrit, Pali, Avadhi, and Braj Bhasha; others are translations from Arabic, Chinese, Old Bengali, Kashmiri, Persian, Tibetan and Tamil sources. The successful collection of texts has been made possible because of the significant advances in historical and philological research on yoga made during the last three decades.The book is part of the Hatha Yoga Project, a research undertaking that has been funded by the European Research Council for several years with the purpose of producing critical and annotated translations of key texts; it is based at the School of Oriental and African Studies –SOAS, at the University of London and with the participation of other international centres. With their book, Mallinson and Singleton have made a significant contribution emphasizing the idea that yoga is not a static subject but that it has been evolving, adapting and mutating. Through multiple examples, they illustrate how yoga masters were true innovators and were successful in improving yoga practices while they also emphasize that their innovative views were bound to a proper orthodoxy.

My first reaction when I saw this new publication was, “Oh no, not another yoga book.” Once I received it and saw what was inside I realized I was very wrong. This may not be the best collection of yogic writings, but it is certainly one of the best. It is a worth-while piece in any collection, and a very good introduction into Yoga in all its many facets.Most of the translations in this book are from sources already found in English translation. Mallinson and Singleton however offer their own fresh, clear translations. Some of source material, even though other English translations exist, are either from obscure, hard-to-find, or out of print publications. Some of the translations appear to be from sources translated into English for the first time. All of the translations are expertly translated in clear modern English, yet faithful to key yogic concepts.Yoga is an expansive topic not limited to the approach in Ashtanga Yoga. Nor is yoga limited to the yoga of Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. With this in mind, this collection of writings is grouped with reference to the yoga found in the Mahabharata, and in Buddhist, tantric, and Nath writings, traditions and samhitas. The approach of yoga is differ in each of these traditions; Mallinson and Singleton do a good job in showing the nuances between schools of yoga. The chapters follow the general approach taken in the Yoga Sutras, but also include chapters on bandha (yogic locks) and the yogic body.The inclusion of writings by the Nath Siddhas are especially welcomed. The Naths were the spiritual ancestors to modern Hatha Yoga, a direct line leading to modern yoga as we now know it. The source material from this school of yoga is hard to find in English translation, let alone in any sort of publication.The translators have supplied an introduction and glossary. The introduction contains an enlightening history of yoga. There are copious notes and a bibliography. This collection in other words contains something for any type of reader, whether this is your first time in studying yoga, a general reader, or a specialist. All in all, a highly recommended collection.

Knowing the backstory of the people in the Bible lands of Mesopotamia, Syria, Egypt, etc., their cultural habits, and the way they lived their daily lives helps to illuminate the scriptures. For example, in the 4th chapter of the Book of John when Jesus has a conversation with the Samaritan woman, we know by the woman's statement that there was tension between Jews and Samaritans for the woman was surprised that Jesus asked her for a drink of water since the "Jews have no dealings with Samaritans." However, the text doesn't go into detail about why this tension exists, but referencing Nelson's Bible Customs and Manners will tell you that because the Samaritans were taken captive by the Assyrians, they intermarried and adopted many pagan beliefs leading to enmity between the Samaritans and the Jews. This book is an invaluable resource for learning not only the customs and manners of certain groups, but it also presents exciting articles about the political landscape, wars and captivity, socio-economic conditions, how different cultures evolved, and the impact all of this had on God's people and His purposes. It is not laid out in dictionary format; it's more encyclopedic and has a wonderful and comprehensive index. Also, the photographs are very useful and very well-placed throughout the book. This book will certainly help to increase your understanding and appreciation of the Bible.

This is very readable book created in a format that is clear and easy on the eyes. Although this is no novel, it is laid-out in clear sections and allows for continual reading in each era of biblical times.For instance, you can take a tour of the time of Abraham and learn of the geography, houses, religions, foods, agriculture, tools and many other such things that were pertinent to that era and less so as time progressed. This is very helpful if you wish to have accurate information for a particular time and place.For myself, this book is not quite as helpful as I had anticipated, and this simply because I was looking more for a searchable encyclopedic book that would describe all the above items in a more itemized format. The way this book presents its cultural and historical information is valid, but makes searching for specific items "an Inn" or "yoke" difficult. This is a very enlightening book that gives some insight on biblical times, activities and cultures. It helps a bible reader grasp a better understanding of biblical characters and why certain things were done.

I love this, it is a much needed book for understanding what the culture was like when they spoke

An appreciation of the history, political climate, trends, and just plain way of life of persons and generations of the times of the Bible is important in the understanding of the potence of the main thrust of it. One needs to ensure that he/she is taking everything within context and divine guidance in his/her quest to understand the Bible with a derived main motive of being more of an accurate servant to God.Although the Bible can be understood by itself in itself through careful and patient study with humility and guidance, this book is - in my opinion - is an adequate assistant. It goes through the history and meanings of customs as well as the politics and rules of the land. It has accurate maps and drawings and even gives evidence based on secular history of biblical content.If you are a student or considering purchasing a gift for such a student of the Bible - I say that this would be appropriate.
