I really liked this book and found it to be as complete (as much as possible in one book). I also liked the interpretations that were scattered throughout. This is a great starter book into the banned and forgotten books of the bible....

Plus, they include quotes from other verses found in the canonically approved Bible, showing that indeed these lost books inspired what is found in the Bible. For example, The first Book of Enoch is sometimes quoted word-for-word throughout the Hebrew Bible and the writings of Yeshua's Talmidim (Jesus' Disciples). Of curse, you wouldn't know that unless you had access to Enoch 1. From my personal view, Yochanan's (John's) Book of Revelation is actually part two of Enoch 1. Enoch confirms what was seen by Yochanan, two witnesses to the same events (though sometimes described differently).If you are new to discovering the forgotten scriptures, here are a few things you should know:The KJV and NIV Bibles and others like it, are simply incomplete. The next would the Greek Orthodox Bible which contains even more than the Catholic Bible. Ultimately, the Coptic Ethiopian Bible is the largest in the world with a total of 81 books. Don't worry, much of this compilation here on Amazon has the Ethiopic texts that have been concealed and hidden from the Holy Roman Empire - that's why they survived. People fear what they don't understand and book burning was the norm. Instead of reexamining their theology, dogma and interpretations it was more convenient to ban and outlaw books that questioned the status quo. Additionally, there is also the Septuagint. Complied by the Greek Diaspora (Jews living in Greece), it was the first translation of the Hebrew Bible into Greek with the Apocrypha. The Psalms of Solomon and the Odes of Solomon are not in this Encyclopedia but can be found in the Septuagint. Some compilations of the Apocrypha are bigger than others - example: The Story of Ahikar and all four Maccabees are not included in this Encyclopedia. (my other copy of the Apocrypha only has the first two Maccabees)If you buy this and wonder "where do I start?", I personally suggest you read the Book of Wisdom (Wisdom of Solomon) first. Before you read it, pray. Pray that G-D will guide you and that He opens your eyes, ears, hearts, minds and souls to see what G-D wants you to see and not dwell on the man-made dogma and traditions of interpreting. Pray that G-D's interpretation and intent of the book is revealed to you. This will only happen if you are willing, if you have a sincere heart you will come to know the Gift of the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, The Holy Spirit of Instruction and Truth. If you wonder where this incredible title comes from, unfortunately this massive compilation doesn't included every single missing book. It's a great collection, but the search isn't over - far from it. If you can, get a hold of a copy of The Apocryphal New Testament (sacred-texts.com) and read the Mary Hath Chapters and Protevangelion to find where the title comes from.I also suggest getting a copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls, you'll find the War Scroll is found both at Qumran and in the Coptic Ethiopian Bible. The Dead Sea Scrolls back up a lot in the book and vice-versa. If you consider yourself Christian, please find a copy of the Jewish New Testament or the Complete Jewish Bible to expand your understand of Israelite culture and understanding Torah. You cannot understand Yeshua without knowing Torah.Just a warning: If you read Enoch 3, you might be taken off guard. It is a very strange book and should be taken with a grain of salt. If you know anything about Talmud, Kabbalistic and Mystic Gnosticism, that is the relm of this particular text. Personally, I don't take any of those seriously. Talmud is rabbinical commentary and should not be taken 100% serious. Another secret book is the Testament of Solomon which echos the Talmud's claim of how King Solomon was able to control evil spirits with a magic ring to help build the Temple. The Hebrew Bible tells a different story of how the Temple came to be, but believers in Jewish Mysticism consider this fact. I personally don't by it for a minute, how could a Holy Temple be built by Holy Angels and evil spirits? A house divided against itself cannot stand, right? However, a counter point would be this - the Temple was built by both good and evil, which is why G-D allowed it to be destroyed as Yeshua predicted it would. Bare in mind that if you choose to get a copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls there are two things to look out for: The Watchers and the Shoddy Wall Builders. The Watchers are the fallen angels who laid with daughters of man and had offspring, the Nephilim. Note: The fallen angels and demons are not the same, demons are the souls of the Nephilim who past away in Noah's flood. In my mind the phrase "Shoddy Wall Builders" brings Freemasonry to mind. They do in fact claim to be the builders of Solomon's Temple, but "Shoddy" implies bad or fake. I'll stop there are let you think on your own about all of that. I had been looking for some sort of study related to the Apocrypha for quite a while. I considered this work as well as many others. Although this book is more of a self-guided study, I am very pleased with this choice.The author gives a brief history of each section and the text is easy to read in modern language. I read critical remarks due to the "Westernized" language, but it makes it much easier to read. Plus, I am reading it as added Scriptural background, not as canonical doctrine. The text does make me evaluate what I believe and adds a new dimension to God's word from a historic perspective. I like that the works of both the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha are presented in one volume. The good quality tome is large and heavy with rather small font and single spacing of chapter text. It is 825 pages in total, so I understand why the font and spacing are what they are. Otherwise, the single volume would be massively cumbersome or separate volumes would be required. Although, I like printed material, if I were to re-order, I would purchase the electronic Kindle edition due to these factors.

Covers everything you can imagine. Print is small, but if it wasn't this book would be twice as thick. Very interesting, but really deep, and confusing. This is a book you really have to give full attention to when reading. Have bible available and Google to help, explain some of what's written. Interesting to see why these books were excluded. After all my studying I get the feeling if Christ were to return, the churches, temples, and religious palaces would be the first people to feel his wraith. I believe he would be extremely upset what they all have done in God, and his name. I can see where these excluded and destroyed gospels were a real threat to the rich and powerful church, even to this day. There's a lot of money in God ! That was not his message.

Our church life group wanted to do a fun study and so we picked this book as a jumping off point to learning about different texts that got axed from the Bible. This book is an EXCELLENT resource as it provides the entire texts of these books. It offers a page or two of history on each book, but if you are looking for an in-depth look into each individual rejected scripture, you will not find it here. Still, a great book for having all of the texts in one place!

First of all, this is not a copy of the Deuterocannonical works of the bible, this is much more comprehensive than that. This is a broad compilation of recovered texts that didn't make it into the Bible. If you're a Biblical scholar and desire a comprehensive set of texts that reflect books mentioned in the bible but not present, this is your book. Definitely give it a try.

Interesting work, in a beautiful prose style. Obviously, this is not for the general public (at least today, although presumably more so when it was first published). It is a slim volume, in this, its original published version, and, as others have pointed out, is not mainly a "confession" regarding substance abuse. The author gives a fair amount of background information on his life, which I found entertaining and informative and thought really served the author's purpose of allowing you to get to know him and put his opium dependence in context. If you have more than a passing interest in the Romantic era and/or bohemian lifestyles, like I do, you might rate this 4.5 stars (which is my precise rating) or even 5. Just note that reading the author's prose takes concentration, especially for the modern reader. It's nothing as difficult as Sir Thomas Browne or Robert Burton, but it's far from something you'd read from Oprah's Book Club.

By the time Thomas De Quincey wrote "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater" the subject of narcotics was very much a taboo, thus the author was the founder of a new type of literature - addiction literature.The book`s structure is as follows: Part l (To the Reader and Preliminary Confessions), Part II (Pleasures of Opium, Introduction to the Pains of Opium, The Pains of Opium, May 1818, June 1819), Appendix and Footnotes. When De Quincey was seven, his father died, living him in the care of four tutors. After changing several esteemed boarding schools, the protagonist came to Eton, where he discovered his passion for Old Greek and Ancient literature. However, he wanted to drop out of school when he was seventeen but his guardians didn't approve, therefore he ran away from Eton. He traveled to Northern Wales where the villagers asked him to do small work as an exchange to food and a place to say. Unfortunately, he ran short of money and he was forced to move on, thus he found himself in London. There he almost starved to death, but a fifteen-years-old prostitute - Ann -saved him and thus the two became friends. Her gesture and his sympathy for her followed him all his life, but he did not see her again because he had never asked for her last name. Being fed up with poverty, De Quincey asks an old school friend - Earl of D - to lend him some money to return home. He reconciles with his family and goes to Oxford University. From this point on, the narrator begins to tell his reader about his good and bad experiences with opium. As De Quincey confesses, the previous period of his life left deep marks on his health - severe stomachaches, intolerance to certain foods and psychic traumas. The first time he used opium was after a friend suggested it as a pain-killer for toothache. Afterwards, he began consuming it regularly by counting the drops .Throughout the years he had to consume more because the doze didn't have the same pleasant effects. The obsessive counting of the drops may represent the fact that De Quincey wanted to keep his addiction under control, because he took it for medical reasons, not for pleasure. My favorite part of the book is when De Quincey began to feel the bad effects of opium such as the hallucinations and nightmares, which usually took place in Orient and North Africa (China, Turkey, and Egypt etc.), places that exported opium to Europe. The Malay, who has previously showed up at his door and to whom De Quincey offers a good amount of opium, he will also appear in the author's dreams. The style of the Confessions is erudite, seasoned with Greek terms, references to Ancient literature and other domains. (art, economy, politic science etc.) Even if the title suggests the idea of confessions regarding the author's life, here opium is the center piece of the book, with its positive and negative effects. There are also many digressions that might annoy the reader, but they have their purpose, such as the causes and the justification for De Quincey's use of opium.

I loved the personal account of the main character - an observant and philosophical diarist - describing his life and descent into drug addiction during the age of reason. There was an unexpected end as well. Not a long book, but one of unique insight and impact.

They forced us to read this deprived individual's work for the French teacher's entrance contest (capes) and it was nothing but a chore.

First of all dont read the introduction as this will ruin your reading on the original, base work- "The Confessions..". Thomas De Quincy is almost poetic in his prose, as of/like the english poets he reveres. Just when I would grow tired of the work and would set it down for a time I would come back to it to find some beautiful, finely crafted passage.If you are reading this as I was for knowledge about drug addiction I also recommend highly, Aleister Crowleyy's- "Diary of a Drug Fiend."

I have the following reasons for loving this book:1. This book has one of the best explanations of the meaning of gradient, divergence, curl, and the Laplacian I've ever seen.2. The diagrams deriving the magnitude and direction of the centripetal acceleration vector are beautiful.3. I found the end of chapter problems "do-able" and there is a nice web-site to go along with the book showing complete answers and solutions if you get stuck.4. There is a gentle but rigorous introduction and explanation of covariant and contravariant vector components which is very nicely done.5. The book starts to get more abstract when it discusses tensors, tensor derivatives, and Christoffel symbols but the author does an excellent job explaining them along with giving examples of their use.6. The last chapter has 3 more very nice detailed examples of tensor use. Although I read the clear explanation of the first two (the inertia tensor and the electromagnetic field tensor), I omitted the end of chapter problems dealing with these examples since I wanted to concentrate my attention on the tensors involved with General Relativity. The author does a superb job explaining the foundations of General Relativity and the origin and use of the Riemann Curvature Tensor. Along with this he shows how the Ricci Tensor and Ricci Scalar come about. The author does a great job giving an example of how the Riemann Curvature Tensor is calculated for a 2-dimensional spherical surface.If I had anything I wish I could have seen it would be to have a little more explanation of the Ricci Tensor and the Ricci Scalar in the last chapter. Also, although they were briefly mentioned, I would like to have seen more dealing with the "Einstein Tensor" and the "Einstein Field Equation". But, that could have easily lead to another chapter which was probably beyond the goal of what this book was trying to teach.In summary, I don't think you could find a better introductory book for vectors and tensors than this one!

This book surpasses any other math/physics book I have ever read. I no longer write reviews, but for this one I will. This book actually describes the "geometric" difference between co and contra variant tensors. I have never seen this done before. I spent weeks years ago trying to figure the difference(geometrically). One is upper and the other lower incidences, so what. This book would have put me so far ahead, why did someone not do it earlier. The part on vectors is great, but the tensor part is the best I have ever seen. This book is like cheating!! Instead of banging you head on the wall one hundred times, it like some putting a pillow between you and the wall and saying just bang your head once. I am finishing string theory, having already completed general relativity and quantum field theory. I know what I am talking about. If you understand what is going on geometrically you can understand what is going on. Tell your friends the geometric different between co and contra variant tensors, some graduate students do not know the geometric difference, try it.

I have read many books that introduce such objects and concepts as coordinate transformations, contra/co-variance, covariant differentiation, parallel transport, Christoffel symbols and a host of important tensors, A clear understanding of these will allow a person to advance their understanding of physics dramatically. I read these books not just to deepen my understanding but I am always looking for the best way to teach such concepts to my students. Bought this b/c the movie I've Been Waiting For You was based on this book, and I must say that I like the movie better. It's enough to keep you going. Like it's enough to keep me reading to the very end. But some parts were tacky. Like Eric is completely gold. Gold skin. Gold eyes completely gold. That just seems tacky to me. Or the kids don't sound like kids. The kids talk differently than I would expect kids to talk like. Or Lois Duncan doesn't seem to understand karma. She understands some New Age Wiccan karma. But karma in Buddhism is just cause and effect. Or how being drunk is enough to remember ones past life. Wouldn't every single drunkard remember his/her past life if that were the case? Or Sarah in THIS lifetime seems to be a lot to blame for Sarah's own misery. Like Ted Thompson brought up some good points. She kept whining about wanting to go back to Ventura insistently. She never gave Kyra a chance. She hated her and never made a real effort to get along with her. She didn't care about her mother's happiness, even though it was her senior year and she could just move out. Realistically, people change, you are an adult or close enough and don't like how your mother changed, move out. She would have only had to deal with her mother's new behavior for a year. People changing is a reality of life and they don't always change back. Usually when people change, it's permanent. (Except for drugs and other addictions.)It would be much easier to empathize with Sarah if she made a stronger effort to get along with the people in the town. Country music isn't as bad as she makes it out to be. I have to agree with Ted, she does act stuck up and snooty and just views everybody as backwards. The book has its highlights, though. Just not enough for me to bump it up to 4 stars. The highlights would be Charlie. His lines always made me laugh. And who doesn't know an Eric Garrett? There were a few "Eric Garretts" in my old school. We all know a guy who uses your friendship with him to play you as a fool.I'll probably make a youtube video on this later.

"Gallows Hill" is a very well crafted suspense/supernatural thriller. Although I don't usually go for the paranormal books, this one was presented in a way that was, for the most part, believable. It is also supposed to be a young adult book, but I found it entertaining for the not-so-young adults as well.The book starts with Sarah Zoltanne being forced to relocate from Ventura, California, to tiny Pine Crest, Missouri, for her final year of high school. She was forced to follow when her mother Rosemary, widowed for several years, met Ted Thompson at a teacher conference and fell irresistibly in love. Ted was still married, although separated, and had a teenage daughter, Kyra, who was only one year younger than Sarah. The move was particularly rough for Sarah as no child wants to move away from their friends for their last year of high school. Add to that the fact that Pine Crest was a small community where the children had known each other almost from birth, and Sarah and Kyra couldn't stand each other, and you get what was the makings of a pretty miserable senior year for Sarah. The class president, and anointed golden boy of Pine Crest, Eric Garrett, asks Sarah to help with the senior class fundraiser. They were holding a carnival in the gymnasium and Eric wanted her to be 'Madame Zoltanne,' fortune teller extraordinaire. Sarah tried every excuse she could think of to get out of it especially the fact that she didn't know the first thing about telling fortunes. Eric had a plan though. Kyra had a wireless radio and would feed info on all the people walking in Sarah's tent. Sarah would then put everything together and come up with a fortune. Her mother even had a crystal paperweight (which had a life of its own) that Sarah could use as a crystal ball.Pressured to try and 'fit in' by Ted and Rosemary, Sarah agrees. The night turned out to be a major success. People were astonished that a stranger knew so many details about them, many she had never even spoken with before. All was going very well until Charlie Gorman walked in. Overweight and uncoordinated, Charlie was the class whipping board and was constantly being teased. When Sarah looked in the crystal ball for Charlie, she saw him being pushed down a flight of stairs. She was so taken aback by this that she feigned a headache and, since the carnival was almost over, decided to call it a night. When Charlie showed up at school the next day with a cast on his arm, things started getting sticky for Sarah.Eric, having a hidden agenda of his own, pressures Sarah into holding private readings for cash. Kyra has a major crush on Eric and agrees to help. As she holds more fortune readings, Sarah sees things in the crystal ball which ultimately come to fruition. Add to this her nightmares about the Salem Witch trials and her growing friendship with Charlie, who is a proponent of reincarnation, and things start to spiral out of control for Sarah.I very much enjoyed reading this book and while the plot was not really surprising, it kept the pages turning. None of us know what's on the other side of the grave, so who can say what happens.

This book really touches the heart as it tingles the spine. I felt for heroine Sarah as she is haunted by the memories of young Betty Parris, who triggered the Salem Witch Hunt, and persecuted by her classmates. I almost cried when no one believed what she said about the drawing of the noose and about the dead crow. Another thing I loved was her relationship with the large-bodied-but-kindhearted-and-cute Charlie. That really touched my heart because I too was in love with a generously-sized gentleman. This book is well-crafted and entertaining and just plain excellent. Buy two copies. You'll wear out the first from reading it so much. Lois D. does it again. I think all her "teen-suspense" books are great, even though I said goodbye to my teenhood some years ago.

This was a good easy book I enjoyed reading it....I did find it a little slow moving but all in all I would recommend.

Glad our girl escaped the Ozarks. Who wouldn't prefer to live in Ventura California. Or anywhere in California. Small towns can be deadly.

It was a somewhat interesting read. It seems to be geared towards younger children. Too many occult symbols in it for me though.

As far as cliffhangers go this isn’t the worst but it was still annoying. The story has promise, but all the little things that irritated me and then to have a cliffhanger on top just really brought down the rating for me. It says this is a full novel, but there are several questions that don’t get answered in this book that should’ve been to tie up the book better. Yes, there would still be some unanswered questions, but they are part of the overall story arc and weren’t pertinent to resolving this book.I’m not revealing the questions because they somewhat reveal spoilers and this is a worthy read even if the MC is so very frustrating at times (and part of the frustration stems from certain questions not being answered). Then there is her raging sex drive. It could rival a teenage boy in the throws of puberty finding masturbation for the first time. I get sexual attraction, I get masturbation, I get wet dreams even, but this level is something I cannot relate to at all and it becomes frustrating when the only thing on her mind seems to be screwing these guys anytime she gets the chance, except when they make her angry.

Erin Bedford did a fantastic job!I really enjoyed this book. Not your typical vampire romance story. Piper needed a job and was willing to take any job. When the temp agency assigns her to clean the house of a bunch of rich men, she wasn't quite sure if it was really worth it. When she breaks a expensive and priceless job, she doesn't have a choice but keep it. There's definitely an attraction between Piper and the Durand brothers. I love the twist to this movie and Piper's sass is absolutely fantastic!A definite must read! The story line is fantastic, I love the characters, the multiple POV of all the characters and what a great cliff hanger! You have to read the story! Let me begin by saying that Vampire stories are not my favorite genre, though I have found several that I've enjoyed. I decided to read Indebted to the Vampire because I am a fan of Erin Bedford's books.I truly enjoyed reading this. The sarcasm, temper tantrums and snark were truly delightful. The characters were interesting and seems obvious that they will be further developed in future books. I am certainly looking forward to the next book!

The first time I read this story was in a box set and since then the author decided to extend the story and boy oh boy can we say holy freaking cow!!! I love how sassy Piper is and that she refuses to take any crap from the men of the house. All I need to say is THAT ending !!! I need the next book ASAP

I loved this book! I had trouble putting but down. Ms. Bedford created a whole new world of vampires and drew me in. I found myself wanting to to apply to work for them, lol. This book is absolutely amazeballs!You can not predict what the MC does, and NOT the boys/men either! So it makes you question a few things, but also make you laugh out loud! Absolutely worth it - try it!

This was my escape from my exams... I could not put it down. Fell asleep on it and when I woke upI just kept reading :)The book follows a strong women in a house with so many dofferent men.Cannot wait for the next book.
