I wanted to get this book to get strated with learning the basics of anatomy and physiology. I really didn't have much knowledge about anatomy and physiology, its a good start but definitely not intended for a professional. Its not a text book by any means but for me who is trying to get introduced to sysyems, and they they work its good. Once I felt comfortable I purchased more advanced materials, text books etc for anatomy and physiology to further advance my studies. I also purchased the book the accompanies this.

Purchased this book to assist with my Anatomy and Physiology Class. It has really helped in challenging my brain. I like that I can check my answers to see if I am right. Once I am complete with each section I will be able to use it for a study guide as well.

My daughter was struggling with anatomy and had to take it again, so I bought her this and the accompanying book and she passed with an A!! She said it was easier to understand than the instructor.

SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT READ DEAD JOKER OR NO ECHO!!!! The convener of our mystery reading club made a huge mistake and decided we would sample Anne Holt by reading 1222. Sadly for all of us, that was our introduction to Hanne Wilhelmsen. Immediately afterward, I went back and read the first seven books in order. Now much is clear that was previously obscure. These books are addictive, and the plots get better and better. My only frustration is that while Hanne herself and her close friends and associates (Billy T., Hakon, Karen, and even Silje) are three-dimensional characters, the author seems to have trouble writing Hanne's romantic life in a credible way. Cecelie always felt two-dimensional to me, and now Nefis feels the same way. Neither woman's relationship with Hanne is fleshed out as richly and vitally as is Billy T's fraught relationship with her. They both seem to be mere plot foils.

Fascinating character. Loved this book. I read it out of order to the books leading up to,this one and had no trouble reading it as a stand alone novel. I have ordered the next in the series.Great depth of character and story line kept me in the dark till the very end and a surprise twist too. Very good highly recommend!!

Anne Holt is such an underestimated writer and this particular book I really enjoyed. The usual dodgy translation in parts but who couldn't forgive that with such an excellent book.

Another great old fashioned mystery from Anne Holt, full of surprises & masterfully intwined storylines. The author never loses control of the narrative. It's a study in good writing, where plenty is left to the reader's imagination.

I really like this series and this story held my interest right to the end. But I don't get the ending. I went back and re-read the last few pages to see if I missed something. Can someone explain the ending?

Intricate plot. Interesting developed characters. Well written. Tense read. Fascinating politics. Left me wanting to read more of her work.

I was guessing right until the last few pages, so kudos to Anne Holt for the beautifully plotted story. I have enjoyed this series immensely, Anne Holt is an excellent story-teller and I highly recommend this series to lovers of good writing, scandi-crime and women as lead characters. I read the series a little out of sequence so, it was backstory on character for me. Loved it.

Many of the series that are included in the Nordic noir subgenre are published out of order. I discuss this in more detail below, but for now please note that fans of Anne Holt’s addictive Hanne Wilhelmsen series should rejoice. BEYOND THE TRUTH, the seventh book in the series, is making its debut in the United States, thanks to Scribner, Holt’s US publisher, and ace translator Anne Bruce. Note well: This title was originally published in 2003. Things have changed so rapidly in the developed world, technologically and culturally speaking, that some parts of the book may seem more historic than they would otherwise. Reading with that forewarning in mind will increase your enjoyment of it.BEYOND THE TRUTH takes place over the course of a very long 10-day period in the latter part of December, a time when emotions run high and long. A word of warning: If you are in the habit of reading while eating (or vice versa), you do NOT want to be indulging in some holiday steak tartar or its equivalent when you begin reading this book. What follows after a rather unsettling vignette is a high-profile quadruple murder investigation conducted by Chief Detective Inspector Wilhelmsen and her team. The scene of the crime is the home of Hermann Stahlberg, a wealthy industrialist known as much for his accumulation of filthy lucre as he is for his extreme reluctance to part with a krone of it. He is but one of the victims; the others are his wife and elder son, and a fourth individual who cannot be identified immediately. The scene has a festive look to it, as if the killings interrupted a celebration that was taking place.The questions that are promptly raised are why Stahlberg’s daughter and younger son were not there, and, of course, if they had anything to do with the killing. The answer to the latter question seems to be undoubtedly “yes,” given that there had been some rumored infighting within the family over control of Stahlberg’s businesses. When the investigation seems to confirm just that, it is only Wilhelmsen who is troubled by the presence of the fourth victim. When he is found to be a very competent but otherwise nondescript textbook researcher, it is merely assumed that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wilhelmsen, though, is interested in --- and then becomes obsessed over --- the presence of this outlier in the disturbing and violent homicidal tableau.Holt gives a nod to Agatha Christie and a wink to Edgar Allan Poe during the course of BEYOND THE TRUTH, but the ultimate tale is all Holt, all the time. Wilhelmsen retains her legendary insightful brilliance, but, as the result of a combination of personal and professional factors --- frustration chief among them --- becomes more and more erratic in her behavior. There are several twists and turns in what might seem to be a straightforward investigation, and they take Wilhelmsen to unexpected places and to a conclusion that neither she nor the reader would ever anticipate.Her police partner of many years, Billy T., is there along the way, as longtime readers of this series would expect, displaying by turns some grim gallows humor at the crime scene while crying on the inside over a number of personal problems that are threatening to converge on him as Christmas approaches. I’ve looked through this book and it looks like a great Lutheran prayer book. Comprehensive per the table of contents. Maybe comparable to the St. Joseph People’s Prayerbook for Catholics. A major welcome addition to the CPH offerings.However, I have never figure out CPH’s pricing, especially for Kindle. Usually the Kindle price of a Kindle version is within a dollar of a full hardbound, and that with the costs of priduction not having paper or printing costs. I was able to purchase their incomoarible Lutheran Study Bible on Kindke when it first came out for $15. Now that book is over twice that amount and the same as the hardbound.This one is even more incomprehensible. The Kindle price is MORE than the hardbound. Nor does CPH include a matchbook price for the Kindle version if you buy both.CPH has some of the best offerings for the Lutheran, but the pricing policy, especially for Kindle versions, just pushes them out of my market.

This Zentangle book has it all! It is simply Awesome! If you are new or old to Zentangle, you are going to LOVE this book. It starts with tools of the trade and explains what Zentangle is and swiftly moves on to the 50 inspiring projects and designs to make (which you can branch off to use with your own ideas and that makes the ideas limitless!). This is a nice meaty book. For those of you used to the small, more limited books or ten page instruction books, this book will make you smile - widely!There are four CZTs who authored this book so there are different flavors of Zentangle to enjoy. This book also goes beyond the tiles. They have their purpose naturally, but this book recommends different papers and pens and things to use as well as so many new ideas to expand your Zentangle Art. This is the Zentangle Book as far as I am concerned. There are a few that I really adore and enjoy, but none of them compare to this one. This book is my new favorite! Not only is the format large, it's also a workbook with plenty of space to try the new tangles and all of the ideas presented in the book. From birds and fish to detailed fairies, to frames, mandalas and glitter Zentangle, this wonderful book gives you lots of fresh ideas that could become frameable art around the house!The Art Of Zentangle shows you step by step many cool tangles-from easy to difficult. The projects are presented in stages with many of the final versions shown with bright colors!I can't say enough good about this book! I love, love, love it and I would give it 10 stars if possible. I am an artist and simply became intrigued looking through this book when I was shopping for books on mixed media and encaustic. There were a few zentangle books on Amazon (I'd never heard of zentangle prior to this shopping search experience) but this one seemed to have some of the coolest designs that appeared more organic than like Indian prints. (I am not sure how else to describe my choice via the comparisons of the suggestions Amazon gave me when shopping other than that.)Many years ago I owned a pottery painting studio and I have thought so many times since about the woman who worked for days on a large platter and did it all in black and white with these simply tiny designs...the thing was FANTASTIC when she was done. I tried to copy it once out of memory and couldn't. As soon as I saw books on "Zentangle" I realized it must be an art form I was unaware of.This is basically very cool doodles you could do with a sharpie marker. The book is filled with practice pages and filled with loads of ideas. What's ideal about that is it could keep a teen busy for hours learning to create these designs and be able to use them over and over. What's great for ME is that it lends itself to creating a very cool art piece of your own in any time you have to simply sketch out more and more designs. I plan to buy a large sheet of watercolor paper or use it on a large canvas that I can later frame and just leave it out on my dining room table to play with as I have time.Even better, you could create an awesome art piece that your entire family makes together. If you look through the book you see this is simply about learning to make the basic shapes then fill in the spaces between them after you create the shapes so that you have endless doodles everywhere. What I love about the book is that it's not just abstract shapes. It also shows you how to add in organic elements like a hummingbird or fish in your work, and fill them in with the Zentangles.I get the "Zen" part of the name as well. Art takes your mind away from anything troubling it, and the repetitive strokes and creation are very Zen and very peaceful elements for the mind.This would be an amazing book to have should you ever know anyone sick or in the hospital as there is little to do sitting in bed and reading and the TV grow tiresome. Bring them this and a box of thin tip markers and you'd likely be loved for it. This could create hours of fun and result in actually learning a new hobby that could parlay into some cool art pieces for one's home. Better yet, they take your mind away from pain when you do activities like this...The book intrigued me as I flipped through what pages I could see on Amazon. The book thrilled me far more once I got it. Very simple instructions and step by step guides for the beginner but cool enough designs to remain intrigued as you become an expert.

I purchased this to put together a gift for someone who needs to learn how to relax. Combined with the Sakura micron pens, a basic sketch pencil set & the Strathmore Artist Tiles sketch pad it was a great start up kit..As an artist I understand the authors' point about getting into a "zone" while you are drawing. It is really similar to what one tries to achieve with zen meditation. Tangling allows one to focus your concentration while letting worrisome thoughts drift away from you. It is relaxing and anyone of most any age can do it easily. Our 6 yr. old grandaughter had been creating some amazing patterns. But if you were to tell someone to relax by drawing they usually say, "I can't draw". But anyone can doodle -- and tangling is sort of doodling with purposefulness. Once they get into it everyone has been surprised out how well their tangles turn out. This is terrific gift for anyone who has always wanted to be able to draw but thinks they cannot.This is more than a book of zentangle patterns, although there are plenty of those to keep you busy. It is more of a workbook with lots of space to practice, experiment & complete your own zentangles.There was quite a number of zentangle guides to choose from -- glad I picked this one. Well worth the price.

If you're a beginner trying to learn, this is not the book for you. There's a lot of pages blank for you to practice on. But it doesn't give you enough to "practice". OR there will be a single drawing, like a Zentangle Mandala that uses 8 pages to "step out" (step by step instructions) that are way too detailed and wastes pages. Another example is drawing a fairy. Several pages are used to step-out a fairy drawing but it is only valuable if you can already draw faces unless you want to just trace the example (which is suggested). There's also a few pages about drawing silly creatures from looking at random shapes that you find in your own photos.... If you already know how to Zentangle i think this book will bore you. If you don't know how, it isn't enough info or it is too advanced.

Edward Abbey spent most of his life in the American Southwest. He was the author of numerous works of fiction and nonfiction, including the celebrated Desert Solitaire, which decried the waste of America’s wilderness, and the novel The Monkey Wrench Gang, the title of which is still in use today to describe groups that purposefully sabotage projects and entities that degrade the environment. Abbey was also one of the country’s foremost defenders of the natural environment. He died in 1989.

I've read this book a few times now, Edward Abbey truly is an amazing author. This book takes you on a journey through environmental stewards or eco terrorists as some might say. The activism in the name of the environment is riveting and exciting. This is one of those books you stay up through the night reading

I bought this several years ago right around the time the stuff at the Bundy ranch was boiling over. It seemed a good time to have a look at some sort of western libertarian anarchism. What binds Abbey's characters and the Bundy gang was a sense of ownership of the collective but a weird sense. The Bundy people defended grazing on collective land - private benefit of public land without compensation of the public. The gang in the book have a weird sense of protecting the land through destruction, but they aren't steward of the land. One thing that struck me was how willfully they all littered. And on top of all of that, neither the Monkey Wrench Gang or the Bundy Gang were the first ones on the land they claimed to protect through their ownership. The Amerindians are pretty absent from both narratives. As a book, Abby is a good writer, even though I had trouble differentiating between Hayduke and Seldom Seen Smith (not enough difference in the characters, if you ask me). It was good enough that though I kept putting it aside, I kept picking it back up.

The Monkey Wrench Gang holds up well; is still entertaining and thought provoking. All of the characters are flawed, but that may be the point. Those of us who fit well into society are seldom eager to risk our comfortable lives in the service of a greater good. Those of us who are marginalized, however, have less to lose and may be more likely to make political statements and take political actions.The adventures of George Hayduke, Doc Savis, Bonnie Abzug and Seldom Seen Smith as they attempt to fight back against development and the destruction of the West by destroying bulldozers, dams and the egos of their pursuers are cartoonishly entertaining. Today, the idea of an environmentalist throwing a beer can out of a car window seems more than a little odd. In 1975, however, Abby seemed to be combining the mythic image of the Marlborough man with some new age sensitivity to the environment to create characters who both entertain and enlighten and have held up well for 40 years.If you are looking for a light read to entertain you on a flight or at the beach, and have missed it in the past, The Monkey Wrench Gang is a great choice. It is also worth reading to get some historical knowledge and understand where Earth First got some of their ideas. So enjoy the humor, the descriptions of the West and your trip back in time with one of the books that inspired the environmental movement.

I decided to read Monkey Wrench Gang because one book of Edward Abbey's or another was always sitting at my late father's bedside table. My Dad tended to read existential, philosophical novels and was a big fan of Hemingway and Camus. Clearly I had the wrong idea of what Abbey was about. The Monkey Wrench Gang does occasionally wax philosophically, but only in the midst of one character whining or thinking about the bourgeois influence of sanitized American adulthood on the natural environment. Most of Abbey's energy in Monkey Wrench Gang is spent having a good time - following a troupe of 4 troublemakers each shaking off their own shackles of middle-aged boredom to help fight for environmental freedom. But what I found I liked most about Abbey was that, if that was his plot, it's devoid of any sentimentality, any politeness, and even just the occasional whiff of sympathy, even for the characters we care about. At its center, George Hayduke, the beer-guzzling sorta-traumatised vet who never met a can of cheap beer he didn't like, is so fun to watch not because of his drive, but because his drive to clean up the environment seems to come from nothing more than his hatred of anything besides open land, and even then, he'd never be able to put that into words. For a 400+ page book, Abbey's narrative never slags - there's always a race, a crime, or a good yelling match keeping the book moving. And then there's that philosophical sense, which shows up in asides throughout the book, making Abbey's writing a lot like a Vonnegut or Tom Robbins - prone to smart observations that make you like the writer even more than you thought you already did. Take this observation, on women going to bed before men while camping: "The ladies first. Not because they were the weaker sex - they were not - but simply because they had more sense. Men on an outing feel obliged to stay up drinking to the vile and bilious end, jabbering, mumbling, and maundering through the blear, to end up finally on hands and knees, puking on innocent sand and befouling God's sweet earth. The manly tradition." Observations like that show how punchy Abbey can be in making a point, even is his point is that civilized westerners, to the environment and beyond, have been pretty annoying.

This is supposed to be one of those 'don't miss' classics. Personally I found it all a bit silly. I have no problem with it's message of protecting the wilderness from the predations of developers, but the characters were caricatures and the plot seemed concocted by the imagination of an idealistic teenager. Perhaps it seemed radical in its day but in our 'age of terror' it just doesn't ring true.
