I've been following this webcomic series since Aminder posted the very first one, and I was super excited to have a print version of it now. I've purchased a copy for myself and for one of my best friends, who I know is going to love it just as much as I do. Not only are the characters and their own stories absolutely wonderful, the art is just as amazing. Simple, effective, and the facial expressions get me every single time (Ina's lady boner face is my favorite).This series is about the empowerment, strength, resilience, and humor of women. This is about loving your sisters, no matter where they come from and learning to love yourself too. They struggle with validation, romance, and finding some women's razors amongst survival of the human race. Hands down the best comic I've read (and constantly re-read) this year.Check out more of the artist's work on their Instagram (@aminder_d) because she also has a small series involve Emiko (MY BIG FAVE) and Naomi.

This graphic novel is absolutely brilliant and absolutely hilarious. I first stumbled on Aminder Dhaliwal’s Instagram when a friend pointed me a to mini comic she was posting that parodied ‘Death Note’ and it was fantastic. Shortly after, she started posting her Woman World mini comics and I fell in love with the characters and world she created. The individual comics that make up the book often seem simple but, beyond the humor, are layered and nuanced commentaries on culture, politics, love, anxiety and humanity. And a clear love of Paul Blart: Mall Cop. I can’t recommend it enough. And I hope there’s future editions; the world needs more Woman World!

I really enjoy this little comic, but I expected more of a coherent storyline. For the most part, this tends to be more of a thing where little one or two pages mostly stand alone. I should have realized this as the description refers to it as an instagram web comic- but I overlooked that component and instead paid attention to where they also refer to it as a "graphic novel"In my opinion it shouldn't be labeled that way.That said, I wouldn't turn away from it for that. Just think of it more like awkward yeti or sara scribbles books containing a compilation of their their comics, rather than a graphic novel in the typical complete storyline sense. There are a handful of reoccurring themes, but mostly its just funny without story progression.

I followed this series post by post as it came out on Instagram and I adored it, so naturally I love the book. It’s funny, sweet, and chock full of female empowerment. The characters are easy to love and so relatable, despite having completely different circumstances than I do.The other day I walked into the living room as my roommate read the last page, closed it with a contented sigh, and told me that she got why I loved it so much. The Paul Blart jokes abound in our apartment now.

I loved this book. It just made me really happy to read, which is funny considering its somewhat apocalyptic in nature. It's great, thoughtful, and humorous. I spent the entire afternoon reading it and enjoyed every second!

Very Funny, love it!

Woman World has comically captured something vulnerable about the various (and relatable) journeys of women and the importance of community. I am laughing and reflecting as I grow closer to these characters. This comic feels like a powerful moment in media and a story for everyone.

I thought that the comic couldn't get better than what was released online, but of course I was wrong! It's a beautiful book. It's a beautiful comic and series of stories. Everyone should have this!

According to my 9 year old (who's read the book recently), it's a pretty good book and something she'd like to try someday (staying in a cabin in the snow). As a parent, I've got to say it's nice to still have a few things in life that don't need to be CONSTANTLY monitored for content and to know that this series is one in which good wins out, hard work, persistance, and team work are rewarded, and family is still the most important thing in the world.

This book has beautiful arrangements that flow well. Not too hard. I could play these well the first time through sight reading with minimal practice to smaller portions of the songs, which is just about how I like things to be. "Be Still and Know" made this book entirely worth it to me....lovely arrangement that combines some of the classic hymn with the contemporary "Be Still and Know" by Steven Curtis Chapman. It is HARD to find arrangements of contemporary songs that don't sound too choppy or disjointed; this book accomplishes that (or at least makes it easy to change a few of the rhythms around a bit to accomplish that.) Love it.

Nice to just pick up and play. I do a little "fill-in" easily. They sound nice.I am a long time church pianist. Mostly use these for preludes sometimecombining them together wherever possible. Even use these with theother Alfred books. The song "How Great is Our God" is nice. All areappropriate any time. Would recommend to others. All songs are about2 1/2 minutes long.

I've been looking for another sacred book to pull from for church. I enjoy traditional and contemporary. These pieces are unique and not too challenging. However, some of the arrangements just don't sound right to me and have multiple key changes. I plan to use a few songs but hoped to get more out of the book. Maybe it just needs to grow on me. I especially like In Christ Alone and How Great is Our God (which was the one I played before I bought it).

I wasn't paying close attention when I bought this book. Our church is not one that uses many praise and worship songs, so only a few are familiar. But, if you love praise and worship, you will LOVE this book. The pieces are well-written, and though it is labeled early advanced, I think it would work for mid- to late- intermediate also.

I wouldn't say that this is my favorite book for church offertories. I'm not a fan of the new praise songs, and this book is full of them. If you prefer the beauty of the age old hymns, than this isn't the book for you. I'm sorry I purchased it.

Needs to be a little bit more description for the level of this book. It was too hard, but we'll save it.

This is good for prelude music for me as I play a lot for church. At intermediate level, it's easy for my to sight read but for my 9th grade daughter, it takes a little work.

My brother-in-law learned thru 23/me that he had a small Russian Jewish heritage and I told him that he really needs to take time and read n learn about what this means and what will be expected of him before he dives in too deep.

An excellent book on understanding Messianic Judaism, the Law and its role in today's society, and understanding what accepting Yeshua (Jesus) as the Jewish Messiah truly means.

This book is foundational to Christianity. If I were a pastor, I would have a class on it and/or I would make people read it as part of church membership or what have you. As I was reading the first chapter, there was already so much information I decided to go back and read it again and start underlining and highlighting. Then I did the same thing as I got to chapter 4. I'm actually going to start over again and this time type out notes of my underlinings, etc. You will want to follow along in your Bible as you read this book to get a good grasp of everything . 2 things that make this book cool is it's thick, so there is a lot to read. Second, it answers all the difficult passages you may have questions about like with Paul, doing away with the law, kosher laws, shabbat, etc. Sheds light on everything. Get this book!

Dan does a masterful job of exegeting the Scriptures and applying them for today. A must for anyone in the Messianic Jewish world.

This book changed my life and perspective. God is doing something for His people. Jews are finding Yeshua as Messiah But staying fully Jewish. Gentiles are leaving the church that teaches the law of God no longer applies, which is like saying the bible in totality no longer applies. So my experience after this book is to find an entire movement dedicated to understanding the bible through its original hebrew mindset, getting to the real understanding and intent. Leading to a deeper walk with God in repentance and holiness.

Five big stars for my favorite volume of The Sandman yet. I was told, somewhere around volume 3, that the comic gets better from there - volume by volume. So far, that has been absolutely true. Gaiman hit his stride with The Sandman a few volumes ago and has kept right on walking. He is a talented writer, with a whole host of talented artists, letterers, editors and others alongside him. Mix all this together and you have one heck of a comic book.In this volume Delirium of the Endless, and sister to Dream, has decided to find her lost brother. She begins to enlist her siblings for help, and finds a companion for her journey in Morpheus. I absolutely loved Delirium in this volume. She was perfectly written, very funny, and her character really shone. The dynamic between her and Morpheus was a treat.It was also interesting to note in this volume certain story lines that popped back up from earlier volumes. Story lines that, at the time, I did not realize would be connected to later events. Gaiman has placed these connections seamlessly in his story thus far, and it's fun to see. Looking forward to volume 8.

Brief Lives is yet another great installment in a series already filled with great installments. I would say that BL is both the funniest and the most philosophical that the Sandman has ever been.The humor is due in large part to the glorious return of dreams youngest sister, Delirium. She...you just can't describe it really, which is appropriate for her character. I guess I would have to say her ADD type personality leads to some laugh out loud moments. Especially when she gets together with Matthew.The rest of the humor and the philosophy comes from Dream's long lost brother, the prodigal. For those who haven't read, I won't give away his real name. This man is the most reflective of the endless, and the reasons for abandoning his realm are finally revealed. Long time Gaiman fans may also notice the seeds being planted for his novel American Gods, released in the early 2000's.This isn't my favorite story in the series, but it is for a lot of others that I know. Get reading!

Neil Gaiman's 9-issue BRIEF LIVES arc, like much of the Sandman series, is full of ideas. In this run, Dream finds himself seeking out his long lost brother, Destruction. This review is written with the mind that readers are familiar with the story. If you are not familiar with Sandman, this is not a good starting point. Instead, I'd recommend starting from the beginning: The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes.Sandman is like a nice wine; it's best consumed slowly. It's all to easy with comics/graphic novels to propel through the book without taking in much of the illustration or dialogue, but these details are what makes this series stand above the rest. There's plenty of things to think about and dwell on here -- don't rush through and miss them!What can you expect from this storyline? This collection is notable for a few reasons:Destruction's abandonment of his duties have been alluded to since early in the series -- BRIEF LIVES brings those loose ends to a close and pays off expectations. Readers will be able to find out what this long-lost brother has been up to since his "retirement."A closer look at Dream's family -- readers will be given more access to The Endless. Some of the characters that the audience is a little less familiar with (Delirium, Despair, and Destruction in particular) receive more attention. Gaiman continues to flesh out the Sandman universe and does not disappoint.Whatever happened to Dream's son? A loose thread involving Orpheus is picked up within this arc. I won't speak to whether this thread is still hanging at the close of BRIEF LIVES.In addition to these points, Gaiman plays around with some ideas of what being an old god in a new world is like. These sorts of themes would go on to fill out American Gods. With most of the other Sandman entries, there is a flurry of ideas on most pages, so the earlier recounted few are not an exhaustive list. A stray observation: it's nice to see Gaiman realizes that Dream takes himself so so seriously. It's fun to see the author make fun of himself with some of the characters' comments on his dourness.If you have read the first 6 trade-paperback collections, Volume 7 (BRIEF LIVES) is worth your time and money in a big way.

First up, all of the 10 volumes of The Sandman novels deserve 5 stars. They are a phenomenal acheivement in not only graphic novels but in storytelling itself. The story is complex and cerebral and the characters so well developed that Sandman is one of my favorite stories period. The novels are intensely violent and often disturbing but everything that happens serves a purpose, and nothing happens by chance or just for the sake of things happening. Something that happens in one volume may become vitally important 3 or 4 volumes later. By the end of the 10th volume everything has come full circle with an appropriate and satisfying end.With regards to Volume 7, it is good, and central to the story arc, but not my favorite volume. This is primarily because I had a hard time personally relating to the character of Delirium. She was written to be that way but she is an often confusing and difficult character to follow. The story concerns Delirium's wish to reunite with her brother Destruction (one of the Endless who abandoned his responsibilities many years previously). When Desire and Despair both turn her away she goes to Dream who agrees to accompany her.As far as the volume's content on the Kindle Fire - I was hesitant to abandon the volumes in print worried that the Kindle Fire might provide a more difficult viewing experience. That hasn't turned out the be the case. The novel is easy to read, you can scan in to specific boxes, and the colors are vibrant.

This book is filled with information that could save your kids life whether their struggling now or tempted later.

This book is a must read for parents. Even as a former ER nurse I have been shocked the past few years as my own children entered Jr. and High School and came home with tales of classmates on "oxy's" and "tabs" or "robo-tripping" on cough syrup, but they called it "syrup slamming". I sat in shock at the dinner table as I heard, "everyone is doing that, you can buy cough syrup at the dollar store and bring it to school." As parents we NEED to KNOW what is out there-- the slang terms used so we know what they are taking about and most of all we need to know how to get help and save our kids. This book will answer questions and get you started. As Rev. Coughlin eloquently states, "Recovery is not as simple as not using, recovery is about changing the way the person thinks and lives. Recovery is a lifetime commitment." We are in it for life with our kids as well. We need to know how to help keep them off of drugs and what to do if they stumble and fall into addiction.

Addiction is a complicated and often times scary topic to confront and discuss. This holds especially true when it comes to our children. This book is the ultimate guide to understanding the causes, signs and consequences of addiction. It starts broad and talks about the growing epidemic in this country and then zeros in on types of addictions and how they manifest. After you’ve recognized addiction, the book labors to explain different forms of treatment and ways to recover. It warns of enabling a loved one and preaches the goodness of tough love. I found this book highly informative and with the rise of opiate addiction at an all-time high in the US, very timely and appropriate. If you or someone you know is battling addiction in their family, I recommend this book as a guide to healing and helping. Excellent, well-researched book!

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in the field of substance use treatment. I appreciate what the author is trying to do: offer genuine, frank guidance to parents who are fearful of their child's addiction and who are seeking help. There are many such help-givers in the field of substance use treatment, ranging from licensed & regulated experts to peers in recovery (e.g., sponsors in 12 Steps), and all offer their guidance, in my opinion, with the best of intentions.That said, caution needs to be exercised when reading this book and others written by the author. His worldview is limited in scope and fails to give the likely audience of this book - parents in despair - the full range of options available to them. To be clear, there are many excellent options for substance use treatment available to consumers and families, and 12 step programming is but one of many. I was quite disappointed to see the strong focus on 12 step programming with less focus on these other options. Further, his writing makes clear that much of understanding in this field is limited (e.g., numerous instances of beginning with "I did a Google search..."). I am concerned that he misrepresents himself as an expert with his many titles, which may mislead potential readers to assume that his guidance is based on best practices in the field. Please hear me clearly say that his advice does NOT represent best practices in the field of substance use treatment.Parents: if you believe that your child is engaging in substance use, and you are concerned about their well-being, I urge you to seek out professional help. By "professional", I mean clinicians who are licensed to practice in their respective fields by the state. Licensed providers are required to demonstrate advanced knowledge in their respective fields and engage in continued professional development in order to protect the public from those who might mislead consumers - knowingly or unknowingly - and cause harm. These individuals will also be able to help refer you to the resources that best meet your child's needs. Parents should also be aware that there are a number of public, free services available to the families of those with substance use/mental issues, including Al-Anon and NAMI, to name but a few.In sum, please exercise caution when reading this book and take it at face-value as one individual's opinions. His guidance in this book does NOT reflect current best practices in the field of substance use treatment. If you are concerned about a loved one's substance use (or that of your own), please seek out the help of a licensed & regulated professional first before turning to alternative sources of help.
