About the Author
Hugo Meijer is Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI), Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. He is also the Academic Director of The European Initiative on Security Studies, a network of over sixty universities that share the goal of consolidating security studies in Europe. Previously, he was Lecturer in Defence Studies at King's College London (2013-2016) and a Researcher at the Institute for Strategic Research (IRSEM, Paris, 2016-2017). He received his PhD in International Relations from Sciences Po in 2013.

I dislike the title. China is not my enemy. Neither is Russia for that matter. Where is the evidence one or both won't do a better job of being a world power than the U.S. has. I admit reading only the first and last chapters and skimming in between as the book is filled with 500 pages of the kind of minutiae that numbs my brain and lowers my eyelids. I do agree with the authors premise that China cannot be treated as the Soviet Union was and a military challenge of China is a fool's game. The control hawks need to be leashed in regards to China as well as Russia and about twenty other states. But I haven't the power to do that, I'm struggling just to vote in my U.S. elections. So, go China!
